DETAILS OF THE TOUR
HIGHLIGHTS:
Lhasa
- The Potala Palace has 1,000 rooms, and its highest point reaches 117 meters, which once made it the tallest building in the world.
- Tibetans believe that circumambulating the Jokhang Temple clockwise brings good fortune and purifies one’s karma.
Yamdrok Lake
- One of Tibet’s three most sacred lakes; local monks say it resembles a giant turquoise bracelet belonging to a goddess.
- Its color shifts with the weather — from bright turquoise to deep navy blue.
Karola Glacier
- One of the most accessible glaciers in the Himalayas — from the road you can walk almost right up to the ice wall.
- It has appeared in numerous Chinese historical films.
Gyantse Kumbum
- “Kumbum” means “10,000 images” — it is one of the largest stupas in the entire Buddhist world.
- Its structure forms an enormous multi-layered mandala that you can climb like a pyramid.
Shigatse and Tashilunpo Monastery
- Home to the world’s largest statue of Maitreya Buddha — standing 26 meters tall.
- The monastery once housed as many as 4,000 monks.
Sakya – the “Dunhuang of Tibet”
- The monastery holds a manuscript over… 100 meters long!
- Its frescoes, some as old as 900 years, are painted with pigments made from powdered gold and gemstones.
Rongbuk – the Highest Monastery in the World
- Located at 5,154 m above sea level.
- Rongbuk monks were the first to bless Himalayan climbers before their attempts to summit Everest.
View of Mt. Everest
- On a clear day, you can see six eight-thousanders from one spot: Everest, Lhotse, Makalu, Cho Oyu, Shishapangma, and Gyachung Kang.
Peikutso Lake
- One of the few lakes that reflect the Shishapangma massif — the only 8,000-meter peak located entirely within China.
- Its waters have an extraordinary deep, “sapphire” blue hue.
G219 – The Highest Paved Road in the World
- Some sections run above 5,200 m, making it one of the most extreme roads on the planet.
- It is the longest high-altitude road in China — stretching over 10,000 km.
Mount Kailash
- No human has ever stood on its summit — the peak is sacred and untouchable.
- According to Hinduism, Lord Shiva himself sits atop the mountain, the ultimate master of yogis.
Manasarovar Lake
- Pilgrims believe that bathing in its waters purifies the karma of a thousand lifetimes.
- It is one of the highest freshwater lakes in the world (4550 m).
Zanda Soil Forest
- A natural labyrinth of colossal rock “cathedrals” carved by wind and water.
- Some formations rise up to 100 meters and stretch for dozens of kilometers.
Guge Kingdom
- It existed over 1,000 years ago and had an advanced irrigation system — a true technological marvel in desert conditions.
- The rediscovered frescoes amaze with their vivid colors despite the passage of centuries.
Qiangtang – the Largest “No Man’s Land” on Earth
- Home to wild yaks, Tibetan antelopes, and the rare wild kiang donkeys.
- For hundreds of kilometers there are no cities, shops, or fuel stations — only vast, endless wilderness.
The Land of a Thousand Lakes
- The areas around Nyima and Gerze contain the world’s largest concentration of high-altitude lakes.
- You’ll see blue, green, and milky-white lakes whose colors change depending on the minerals they contain.
Selintsok – the Largest Lake in Tibet
- Covering over 1,640 km² — larger than the entire city of Warsaw.
- The lake is a major sanctuary for waterbirds.
Namtso – One of Tibet’s Three Sacred Lakes
- Namtso means “Heavenly Lake.”
- In winter, the lake freezes over two meters thick, creating surreal white landscapes.
WEATHER:
The weather at this time of year is generally good and sunny, but as in all high-mountain regions, conditions can change quickly. Nights and early mornings are significantly colder, with temperatures dropping to just a few degrees above freezing — or even below zero. During the day, temperatures typically range between 10°C and 20°C.
MOTORCYCLE GEAR:
Remember that this is a motorcycle / 4×4 expedition, so you are required to bring appropriate riding gear. Each participant is responsible for their own equipment. Motorcycle adventure-style boots work particularly well for this type of terrain and riding conditions.
LUGGAGE:
We will be traveling light. Try not to take more than one 20kg luggage piece. It should be dust & water proof. For riding days take with you a small backpack or waterproof bag, with straps, to enable you to attach it to your motorbike.
